French soldiers in Niger, where tensions with France have been increasing day by day since the soldiers took over the government, have withdrawn from the country. The French Embassy in Niamey was also closed. Of the 1,500 soldiers serving in Niger, 1,346 have already returned to France, while the remaining 154 soldiers have left the country. French soldiers handed over the French military base in the capital Niamey to the Niger authorities with a ceremony. Nigerians who wanted to celebrate the departure of the French soldiers also gathered at the military base and celebrated. On the other hand, the French Embassy in Niamey was closed as of December 22, on the grounds that "the Embassy could not fulfill its duties due to the restrictions of the Niger authorities."
